My best advice is to be what I wasn't - WELL ROUNDED. Excelling at science and math isn't enough anymore. It is always great to bump into someone who speaks many languages, plays musical instruments, or has a passion for philosophy (on top of high grades and superb SATs). Best of Luck!

The best thing to get into Hopkins is to show that you've worked hard and tried a lot of different things (but don't do sooo many things that you never really focus on any one activity). Try lots of activities find a good 3 or 4 that you like (volunteering, clubs, sports, jobs, etc.) and be creative and thorough on your essays. Hopkins is the kind of school that sort of looks at scores but wants a TRULY well-rounded person (not just someone to keep them in the top spot in the rankings like many ivies do...)

I got lucky with early decision and never had to apply anywhere else but Hopkins. I would say try to get some experience in college with real-life applications of what you learn, say science olympiad or some sort of school club that competes. Hopkins is very much based upon its research, and they like to see that you've some experience working on/with a team.
Also try to be well rounded. Go ahead and take those humanities electives or act in the school play. Sing in chorus and play a varsity sport. I know that the admission staff is currently looking to round out the humanities side of Hopkins, and this could be a boon for you if you combine the best of both the academic and humanities.
